When Mercury Turns Backward: A Gentle Guide to Moving Through the Storm

There’s a particular kind of week where everything feels slightly off.

An email you’re certain you sent never arrives. A conversation with someone you trust somehow spirals into a misunderstanding. You feel a low hum of irritation beneath your skin — nothing dramatic, just a persistent friction you can’t quite name.

If this sounds familiar, you may have already felt the effects of Mercury retrograde without knowing it.

Three to four times a year, the planet Mercury appears — from our vantage point on Earth — to slow down and move backward across the sky. Of course, it isn’t literally reversing. It’s an optical effect, like watching a faster train pass a slower one. But in astrology and in the experience of many people around the world, this apparent backward motion carries a very real energetic weight.

Mercury governs communication, technology, travel, and the flow of information. When it goes retrograde, those areas of life tend to become… less smooth.

The current cycle runs from February 26 through March 20, 2026 — though the days just before and after these dates often carry their own ripple effects.

Pay attention in the days ahead.

We want to be clear: this isn’t meant to alarm you.
But awareness is a gift. And sometimes a little forewarning can save you a lot of frustration.

Katharina shared a story recently. A woman who had been organizing workshops for Slim for years — someone experienced, reliable, never a cancellation — chose a date that happened to fall during Mercury retrograde. Katharina gently pointed it out. The woman smiled and said she’d never had any problems before. This time, for the first time, she had several cancellations.

One story, yes. But patterns have a way of showing up when we’re paying attention.

Here’s what we’ve found helpful during Mercury retrograde:
Slow down your communication. Before sending an important email or making a significant decision, pause. Re-read. Confirm. Don’t assume messages have been received — follow up.

Practice patience — with yourself and others. Misunderstandings feel more personal when we’re already stretched thin. Extend a little more mercy than usual, especially in the moments that feel most frustrating.

Double-check the details. Travel plans, contracts, appointments — this is a season for careful review, not rushed decisions.

If you work with Light-Life Tools, this is a meaningful time to lean into them.

If you have a Personal Harmonizer, consider programming it with the intention of clarity, patience, and ease of communication. Holding that intention — even for a few quiet moments — may help you stay centered when things feel scattered.

If you wear a Lotus Pendant, Katharina recommends clearing it several times throughout the day during this period. The pendant is designed to help support your personal energy field, and keeping it clear may help you remain more grounded and less reactive when the retrograde energy feels particularly strong.

These tools won’t make Mercury retrograde disappear. Nothing will. But they may help you move through it with a little more steadiness — the way a good anchor holds even when the water gets choppy.

Mercury retrograde asks something of us that we could honestly use more of year-round: to slow down, to check in, to communicate with more care and intention.

Think of it less as a disruption and more as an invitation.

An invitation to be more present. More patient. More deliberate in how you connect with the people and work you love.

We hope this season passes gently for you.

Upcoming Events with Katharina

If Mercury retrograde is stirring something in you — a desire to learn more, to connect, or to go deeper into energy work — there are some beautiful opportunities coming up this spring.

ORI Conference — April 3–6, 2026
Katharina will be giving the keynote at the Ozark Research Institute Conference, sharing the life, work, and inventions of Slim Spurling — including stories and discoveries that have never been shared publicly. If you are new to dowsing, a Beginner Pre-Conference Class with Gladys McCoy is a wonderful place to start.

Light-Life Tools Workshop — April 6, 2026
Following the conference, Katharina will host a 3-hour workshop covering the differences between Tensor Rings, Acu-Vac Coils, and Harmonizers, along with new applications discovered over the years. A meaningful opportunity, whether you are just beginning or coming back to deepen your practice.

Erie Workshop — May 15–17, 2026
Katharina will host an in-person workshop together with Scott Anderson, followed by an advanced dowsing class. Seating is limited.

These gatherings are always rich with learning, inspiration, and genuine connection. We hope to see you there.
